Welcome To

Bowls Bedfordshire

This is the official website for Bowls Bedfordshire.  We aim to provide comprehensive information from around the bowls world in Bedfordshire for all its members and visitors. You will find the various leagues, national, county and domestic competitions, county fixtures, teams and results. Alongside these we have some of our past records and honours.

Bowls Bedfordshire is affiliated to Bowls England, the governing body for flat green lawn bowls in England. We are also affiliated to the Eastern Counties BA.

Our members compete at the highest level and we can proudly boast having many members reaching the latter stages of the National Championships over the last few years including several National Champions.

In Bedfordshire we have 37 Clubs, most of which have both Men and Ladies as members. In age range bowlers can be from 10 to 90 years of age. This site can help bowlers to connect with their local club for coaching as beginners or experienced bowlers, new to the area, looking for a Bedfordshire club.  Please look on our "find a club" page in the Information section.

We hope you find what you are looking for.  However, if you think something else would improve our site, we are always open to suggestions, so please don't hesitate to contact us.

Happy Bowling

Bowls Bedfordshire Ladies 2020/21 President

Barbara Carter (Wilstead Bowls Club)

Warm Greetings to all Bedfordshire Bowlers

We all find ourselves in a very perilous situation due to Covid19, my sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one due to this pandemic. The light at the end of this very long tunnel is the rolling out of the vaccines. This gives us hope that we can look forward to a season’s bowling in 2021.

I am honoured to be your President and look forward to representing the County during 2021. This will be a season of recovery,  I am looking forward to meeting and playing with as many of you as possible. I know I will value our great sport of bowls even more and I hope you all will after this pandemic. Due to the work put in by members of the Executive we are ready for the season and I thank them and I know I can look forward to their much needed support.

I welcome Sally Law, our new County Administrator and Keith Jones, our new County Secretary and wish them well . On behalf of the County my thanks to Peter Lee who has filled these positions and others including that of President over the last 13 years.

My charity will be Cancer Research most of us know of someone who has suffered the effects of this dreadful affliction so I hope we can play our small part in helping to eradicate it.

My best wishes to our lady President Barbara Carter who has agreed to stay in post for 2021.

I hope you all stay safe and well and I look forward to raising a glass or two with you having a laugh and above all enjoying the wonderful game of bowls.

Best Wishes

David Rutt

Dear fellow bowlers

I had been really looking forward to 2020, I thought it had a good ‘ring’ to it, but little did I nor anyone else know what a worrying and disappointing year it would turn out to be.  I had started last year’s message for the front of the handbook with a little joke about the President getting the front seat on coaches, sadly we had no coaches, bowling, tour, or handbook!

I sincerely hope that with the vaccines now being rolled out, we will be able to bowl this year and I am sure that everyone is wishing for the same.

A big thank you to my club, Wilstead, for supporting me yet again, as I know it will be a lot of extra work for them and we are all a year older.

I am rather nervous about the year ahead and hoping that I do not make too many faux pas.  At the same time, I’m really looking forward to it, as all the Past Presidents have told me that they enjoyed their year and it is going to be FUN.  I seriously hope it will be fun for all our bowlers, because if it isn’t, what is the point?  Life is too short to be miserable.  We are all competitive, but we want to enjoy our games too.  I just wish we could get some younger players involved.  Not being quite so strict with our uniform requirements and phasing out the white/cream blazers might help a bit, but more needs to be done.  Any suggestions/ideas?  Please feel free to tell me.

Any ladies I do not know, please introduce yourselves to me, because I am looking forward to meeting and greeting you all throughout the summer and it would be lovely if you could join me on the County Tour to Weymouth in June.

Fingers crossed for good health, weather, and bowling in 2021

Barbara
