Report on Balcomb Trophy.

A Busy weekend for Bowls Bedfordshire starting with the Balcomb away at Gerrards Cross BC to play Bucks, Berks and Oxon. All games consisted of a Pair, Triple and a Four with two points available for each discipline and two points for the overall total.

First early morning game was against Bucks with all games going well until the last couple of ends. The last end to be played was on the fours with Bucks requiring two to win the match. With the Bucks last wood to go it was a measure all round. The wood came in to score and after the measure it ended with 3 for Bucks so they got their win 6 -2.

The second game got underway against Oxon but unfortunately the previous defeat still in their mind and all teams were behind up until the sixth end. The pairs pulled back, got in front on the ninth end and stayed in front. The triples and fours stayed behind and it ended as another 2 -6 defeat.

The table at the end of two games was:-

Oxon 11 pts

Berks 9 pts

Bucks 8 pts

Beds 4pts

Game three started at 4pm against Berks with any of the top three in with a chance of winning. A couple of changes were made in the Beds line up and all teams started well looking for a win. The Pairs and Fours kept in front to the end and the triples pulled back and claimed a draw on the last end. So it was a 7 – 1 win.

Bucks were after the win, to overhaul those above them which they did with an 8 – 0 win over Oxon, so it is Bucks who go of to the finals at Leamington.

Congratulations to David Payne and Chris Beard who won all three of their pairs games and well done to Wayne, Ian, Stuart, Owen, Jack, Jamie, Josh and John who all played their part.
